After what seemed to be and endless war the bloodshed finally came to a close. For several generations what is now being referred to as ‘The Great Ninja War’ had raged on with many casualties on all fronts; what had once been a scattering of villages and cities merged together to form nations lead by systems of government. Perhaps it had been the fact that the divided areas had banded together that allowed the end of war to become possible; these countries represented by their rulers met and were able to create peace treaties that brought the end to the destruction. While the battles were fought on every ground it was the minor countries that suffered the most, at the end their land that had once been peaceful farms and fields was soaked with blood.
During the war alliances between countries had been forged, one side made up of Hi no Kuni, Kaze no Kuni, Tori no Kuni, Ame no Kuni and Kawa no Kuni; while the other side consisted of Tsuchi no Kuni, Kaminari no Kuni, Mizu no Kuni, Taki no Kuni and Ta no Kuni. However, even with the alliances the smaller countries that lay between the larger, more powerful countries just served as the battle ground. These small countries forced to join sides in a war that they played no real part in were decimated by the ferocity of the scrimmages. Innocent people were caught in the crossfire, defenseless villages pillaged and destroyed. The ninja from these providences who did survive the war returned to their homes to find everything they had fought for was gone and there was nothing they could do. Not without stirring up a war that would just be lost.
During the 3 years of ‘peace’ that followed the smaller villages and countries that had been decimated did their best to rebuild while the large villages and countries that had desecrated them quickly became wealthy prosperous regions. While there were no conflicts resulting in battles, the two major sides of the past war made no contact with each other after the treaties. Squads would occasionally cross paths around the borders of counties but luckily no skirmishes were started. In the minor nations while some strived to rebuild others pursued the study of ninja arts believing that if their country had stronger ninja it wouldn’t be treated so poorly. Mixed with the drive to surpass any possible threats and the constant diet of chaos and conflict, some in the minor villages became as strong if not stronger than shinobi produced by the larger nations. In the coming conflict the sheer number of opposing shinobi forces would prove to be more important.
The flames of battle were once again fanned into a roaring fire. While on patrol one ninja squad from Iwa consisting of three members crossed paths with a three man cell from Konoha on a narrow path; neither group would step aside to let the other pass. The area they were in did not belong to either country but did lie on both borders and so spies were often sent across the lands. With the tension of the past war still lingering over head arguing ensued and a fight broke out when one of the Iwagakure ninja threw a kunai at a leaf ninja. With fresh blood spilled and one ninja standing in the aftermath the story was left to be twisted by his pride. On his return to Iwagakure the son of the Tsuchikage wove the tale of how the cell of leaf ninja ambushed his squad and how he had finished them off. A direct attack like that broke the treaty between the two villages. Iwa began to amass an army lead by the Tsuchikage's own son to bring against Konoha and when the hidden leaf village learned of the threat rallied their own forces to meet the Stone ninja on the fields of battle. Once again, the fields of the minor nations were soaked with blood, including that of the Tsuchikage's prideful son.
With the start of the Second Great Ninja War as many have begun to call it, whispers of an outside organization have begun to reach the higher ups ears. Tales of a small team of ninja decimating entire battalions of ninja, from any village, who march, too close to remote villages in the minor nations. Some more extreme stories say that they are demons spawned from the lost souls of the fallen shinobi from the previous war and that they leave no survivors. An exaggeration obviously since whispers of the group have emerged; but one piece of evidence of the organizations existence has left the nation leaders in distress. The only solid evidence of the group’s existence, a scroll written in blood found twenty meters from a mound of burning corpses of shinobi from almost every major nation. The scroll’s short message may have been a fluke but the possibility of an organization that has stayed under the radar long enough to gather enough force to defeat shinobi from all over is not something to be taken lightly.
After the scroll was located no other signs have appeared, and so it was passed off as insignificant; the major nations are more concerned with what is right in front of them then one lone scroll. Only time will tell whether or not this mysterious group is indeed fact or fiction, but for now the war rages on, seven years in showing and no signs of stopping. The old alliances have once again been forged and all prepare for a war more bitter then any have seen before.”We are the light that ushers in the darkness, darkness that will cover the sins of the past, present and future. It has been prophesied. We are Boshoku.”
