SYNOPSIS Bijū (lit. Tailed Beast), also known as Chakra no Bakemono (lit. Chakra Monsters), consist of nine massive demons distinguished by the number of tails they possess, from one to nine. Being living forms of chakra their power far out matches most shinobi, though due to their inhuman nature their immense strength is tempered; essentially preventing them from being intelligent enough to use it effectively. Usually tailed beasts are sealed within humans, which allow the tailed beast itself to speak and better utilize its power. Host are known as Jinchūriku (lit. Power of Human Sacrifice).
HISTORY For years the tailed beast have existed, which includes before and after the establishment of hidden shinobi villages. Hashirama Senju, also known as the Shodaime Hokage (lit. First Fire Shadow), was the only individual in shinobi history that managed to capture and control several of them; using them as peace treaties in order to stabilize the balance of power between shinobi nations.
While peace was realized it was only for a short time because after Hashirama Senju’s death the tailed beast became uncontrollable. No nation could control them and they began to run wild, which eventually laid groundwork for sealing them within humans and the creation of Jinchūriki.
From there, and over the remaining years, whenever one host died the tailed beast was sealed in another. For the nations that housed a host this essentially meant that had an ultimate secret weapon and shinobi. Though for the host itself the pain they would have to endure would never end. Those documented in shinobi history included: Gaara, Yugito, Yagura, Rōshi, Han, Utakata, Fū, Kirābī, and Naruto.
Though eventually seven of them were captured and sealed by the notorious criminal organization known as the Akatsuki (lit. Dawn or Daybreak), leaving only two remaining. However after Akatsuki’s downfall the statue shattered releasing the captured seven back into the wild and over the years the remaining two hosts died releasing the last two tailed beast.
At this point in time the bijū are wild, though they are rarely seen...
